R:ED Event: Car Sharing / Exchange Development
Two topics for our May meeting.
1. Car Sharing: Peg City
One of the reasons many of us love to live in the Exchange District is that we can often walk to get to where we need to go, reducing the need for a car. But can we carry that to the ultimate 'green' conclusion and get rid of our car, saving us gas, parking, insurance, maintenance and depreciation?
Many have a specific need for a car: grocery shopping, visiting friends across town, heading out to do a long list of errands. But what if we could share a car, so that it is available to book for the hours you need it, at only a few dollars an hour, including gas!
A car sharing co-op is already operating in Osborne Village, with three cars available for use. Beth McKechnie
, Manager from Peg City Co-op
will be talking to us about the co-op, how it works, and what needs to be done in order expand the program into our area.
2. Economic Development Plan
As a result of the Downtown Residential Development Grant (aka TIF) program, plans for residential development in the Exchange District have accelerated.
is creating a Community Economic Development (CED) Plan with the main goals to: promote the Exchange, attract new investment and to protect current and future investment. This plan will focus on marketing, infrastructure improvements, commercial development, parking, etc.
The session with R:ED will be led by Loretta Martin
, Director of Development for CentreVenture. It will be geared towards understanding the residents' wants/desires/vision for the future of the district to help guide the direction of this CED plan.
